Obsessions

This is my finished film for this semester, about OCD and physical manifestations of mental illness.

I’d love to know what you think.

(in a private collection, USA) I had finished this piece shortly before September 11th, 2001, but had not yet titled it.  I gave it the title that I have to try and refocus those who felt the tragedies of September 11th were unimaginable. I do not wish to seem to cruel to those who suffered as a result of that day, or insensitive to just how horrifying those deaths are, but it troubled me to hear so many speaking after that event as though this amount of death, the senselessness of them, were unheard of. They obviously are not. I remember an art critic commenting after an opening I had of my work saying something to the affect of, “The fact that so much of this work was made before September 11th is surprising”. Sadly, it shouldn’t be

I try and remember this all the time, because right now there are aspects of my life which I feel unsure about. You worry that you’re doing too much of one thing and not enough of another. Sometimes though you just have to let go, and go with what feels right.
